The core of each panel consists of kraft paper. The sheets are bound with resins, which can be supplemented with a flame retardant for specific applications. While the outer decorative layers can feature virtually any colour, pattern, or woodgrain, the core of the panel consistently remains black. The stack of materials is then compressed between two heated steel plates to its final thickness, significantly enhancing its strength and durability.
