As 2025 comes to a close, one idea has defined residential design more than any other. Homeowners want spaces that reflect who they are, support how they live and offer materials that perform with purpose. If you can imagine it, you can design it with our Portfolio of Surfacing Solutions.

This year brought together a warmer palette, wellness inspired spaces and a renewed appreciation for surfaces that are beautiful, practical and built to last. It was also the year we launched our online shopping experience at Formica.com, providing a convenient, quick and reliable option for residential customers including homeowners/DIYers, renovators, and fabricators alike. With an expanded online inventory including high-pressure laminate selections, sale and closeout offerings; residential customers can browse, order samples and purchase the Formica® Brand products they need with greater ease, whether tackling a weekend project or planning a full kitchen renovation.

What Shaped Residential Design in 2025

Warmth, Comfort and a Return to Neutrals

Interior designers noted a continued shift toward comforting warm neutrals. Rather than the gray dominant palettes of the past decade, homeowners embraced a softer aesthetic that blends natural light, organic textures and calming finishes. This palette showed up in kitchens, living rooms, home offices and multi-use family spaces.

Color as a Confidence Statement

While neutrals set the foundation, bold color made a deliberate appearance. Blue cabinetry and countertops emerged as a standout choice, especially in kitchens and mudrooms. Deep hues also played into the rise of moody decors that define dramatic interiors. Home renovators leaned into emotional design and pushed boundaries with accent islands, feature walls and unexpected pops of color.
